Brooksville Auto Accident Attorney :: Reckless Driving Cited as Cause of Hernando Crash that Seriously Injured Man

The 20-year-old Brooksville man who crashed his pickup into a tree last month and critically injured a passenger has been charged with reckless driving and not DUI.

According to authorities, the man did not have enough alcohol in his system to be charged with DUI.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released the results of the man’s blood tests this week, showing his blood-alcohol level was 0.041 and 0.043.

The man still must face a criminal traffic charge of reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. He was arrested Monday and released from the Hernando County Detention Center a short time later after posting $2,000 bail.

His license has also been suspended for six months.

As of Tuesday, the man remained in Bayonet Point’s surgical intensive care unit. He is listed in stable condition.

Reckless driving, by definition, endangers the safety of other drivers and/or passengers, or property, or both, on highways and roadways. Reckless driving can encompass many careless driving behaviors such as speeding, drinking and driving, tailgating, racing, weaving in and out of traffic and failing to abide by traffic laws. Sadly, reckless drivers cause serious accidents every day that can lead to severe personal injuries or wrongful deaths. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving a reckless driver, it is important to be aware that you do have legal rights to hold the negligent motorist accountable for their actions.

Reckless drivers often cause accidents that result in severe and life-long injuries, including head and neck injuries, back and spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, disfigurement and loss of limbs. Following a severe auto accident, you may require a lengthy hospital stay, rehabilitation and physical therapy. As an injury victim, you have a right to recover compensation for your injuries and medical bills.
