A 50-year-old Spring Hill man was killed Sunday after his ultralight crashed at the Hernando County Airport.
His plane rose 200 feet and appeared to stall. The aircraft spiraled downward and burst into flames when it hit the ground. He died at the scene.
Three hours earlier in Pasco County, an Odessa pilot was killed when his ultralight snagged power lines at Pilot Country Airport just north of Land O’Lakes.
Ultralight planes are generally considered safer than larger aircrafts because they are slower and lighter, maxing out at 55 mph. They fly low and are usually piloted by hobby aviators and sightseers.
Ultralight aircrafts have the ability to deliver serious injuries and even death due to their low speed and height at which they operate. Sometimes accidents can be the result of pilot error or even inclement weather conditions, which means no one else is at fault for the crash. However, in certain cases, other parties can be responsible when negligence or technical error plays a role in the accident. When this is the case, the victim or surviving family members may be able to pursue compensation for their losses.
Aircraft accidents can occur for numerous reasons. When a personal aircraft crash happens, the following parties may be held accountable for personal injuries or death:
• Aircraft Maintenance Crew
• Airport Owner or Manager
• Aircraft Manufacturer
• Navigational Systems Manufacturer
• Aircraft Engineer
