Spring Hill, FL – A 75-year-old Spring Hill woman was killed Dec. 23 after a driver slammed his 2004 Ford Ranger into the side her 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer.
Troopers believe the driver of the Ford, a 26-year-old Spring Hill man, ran a red light on Mariner Blvd. as the woman was executing a turn at the intersection of Mariner and Landover.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. Friends of the woman claim she was headed home after visiting her daughter’s house.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, charges against the 26-year-old motorist are pending as they await the results of toxicology reports and further investigate the crash.
While red light running accidents are some of the most common motor vehicle collisions, they also happen to be some of the most likely to result in severe injuries or even wrongful death. Sadly, these types of accidents are entirely avoidable. While many motorists are able to understand that red means stop, there are still some motorists that fail to pay attention to the rules of the road. It’s important to remember that if you or someone you love has been the victim of a car accident caused by a driver running a red light, there are steps you can take to hold negligent or reckless drivers accountable for the pain and suffering they have caused.
• Careless or Inattentive Drivers
• Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol
• Making an Illegal Turn
• Motorists Distracted by Cell Phones and other Devices
